Strange things are afoot aboard the USS Discovery, and one of the strangest may be fungal research. Burnham’s suspicions that a biological weapon is under development are put away when Captain Lorca tells her that they aren’t creating a new way to kill, but rather a new way to fly … using mushroom spores. Fascinating.
In this episode of Notes from The Edge, in which we deep-dive into connections between Star Trek: Discovery and the broader Star Trek universe, host C Bryan Jones shares his thoughts on “Context Is for Kings” and the possible inspirations for spore drive—both in-universe and in real life.
