Our past defines our future. But how do we live with choices that negatively affect our relationships with others? In “If Memory Serves,” we learn finally learn what created the rift between Michael Burnham and her brother Spock. While Burnham was merely trying to protect him and their family, her hurtful words had a powerful impact the young Vulcan. For Spock, the moment became a catalyst for his pursuit of pure Vulcan logic. For Burnham, it created a burden with which she has lived for years.
In this episode of The Edge, hosts Amy Nelson and Patrick Devlin discuss memory and heartbreak as seen in the characters of Spock, Burnham, Culber, Stamets, and Tyler, as well as how it is not only our choices, but also the consequences of those choices, that define our lives. We also discuss the seamless transition between old and new, and how Discovery is honoring the series that started it all.
