Star Trek: Enterprise: The Romulan War: To Brave the Storm

When Enterprise was canceled after only four seasons, one of the things that fans missed out on was the story of the lengendary Earth-Romulan War, and event that has been alluded to throughout Star Trek beginning with the TOS episode “Balance of Terror.” Had Enterprise continued for seven seasons we almost certainly would have seen the events of this conflict played on our screens. This is one of the great disappointments of the show’s cancellation.

However, Simon & Schuster have worked to fill in the gaps and bring the Romulan War to Star Trek fans in written form. In October 2009 the novel Star Trek: Enterprise: The Romulan War: Beneath the Raptor’s Wing was published. Written by Michael A. Martin, Beneath the Raptor’s Wing tells the story of how the Romulan Star Empire felt threatened by Earth, Starfleet, and the group of worlds that had become known as the Coalition of Planets. The Romulans planned to strike at the heart of the problem: Earth.

After a two-year gap the story will now continue with the release of Star Trek: Enterprise: The Romulan War: To Brave the Storm, also written by Michael A. Martin.

Conflict between Earth and the Romulans has resulted in the shattering of the Coalition of Planets, and the pledge of defense between Earth, Vulcan, Andor, and Tellar is gone. It is now up to mankind to prevent the Romulans from taking over the galaxy. Captain Archer and the Enterprise must abandon their mission of exploration to become a battleship and take the fight to the Romulans in order to save Earth and forge a new Federation of Planets.

Star Trek: Enterprise: The Romulan War: To Brave the Storm will be available as a mass-market paperback and also as a digital e-book. The novel runs 352 pages and lists for $7.99. It’s scheduled for release on or around October 25, 2011.
